Rufous Crowned Fly Catcher

This lively little bird is found in the low brush of the Andes. It’s favorite area is in stands of bamboo. It likes to stay in little family groups and avoids mixing with other birds. It has a very soft song that is easily overlooked. Unlike most bird species, these birds show no difference in coloring between male and female.

So, why did I choose to paint this bird? Well, first of all it is beautiful! I love colorful birds! But I would not have found this bird, if I had not found a new gizmo for my art. It is a DaVinci Eye. It is a helpful app for my phone that lets me see the picture I want to trace on my phone. I align the phone over my paper and then then I put my pencil on the paper, I just follow the lines with my eyes and mark my paper with my pencil. I can see my marks on my phone as I trace. It really is quite magical! The great artist, Da Vinci, came up with a way to project an image onto a screen for the artist to draw. My Dad had a big appliance called a Luci that he used for his 50 years of commercial art. Now the Luci resides at my brother’s home and he uses it for his art. I can now have the same function with my phone held over my paper. How far we have come!
