Japanese Anemone

The Japanese Anemone is the third in this series of Line and Wash Botanicals. I wondered how well the style would hold up when the subject was a white flower. Using a gray colored pencil made the lines light enough to keep this from looking like a coloring book image. White is the most challenging watercolor to paint. The whitest white is the paper color with no paint at all. These spots must be saved while all the other shades are added. Shades of gray add the shape and depth to white flowers. I was pleased with how well this worked.
