This is the first large painting I’ve done this year. I first did it following a demo by Karen Rice. I did this first as a 5×7 and loved it so much, I painted it again as 8×10. I have wanted to learn how to paint my favorite sycamore trees. They also are partially white bark. I did not know how to make them stand out and this tutorial was so helpful.
Paul Clark is always touting his “rigger” brush for long thin lines. I finally got one. Oh, I see why he loves his so much. See those long thin bladed grasses? They are impossible with normal brushes. So I learned a new technique and tried a new brush.
It is below freezing and blowing strong gusts outside. I think about all that cannot be blown away by wind or frozen by cold! God’s love for us and the love He gives us for each other helps us stand. May we keep standing like the trees in this picture no matter what happens outside.
