Dear Art Friend,

Christmas Greetings to you and your family! We have our Christmas tree up and set out our three nativity sets. We try to keep our decorating simple, but meaningful.

My art this time was two larger paintings. The first one is a covered bridge. That was another demo from Paul Clark using a loose style of landscape painting. I’m still struggling with painting rocks and there were far too many taking up too much of the painting in this one. It was challenging, but I wanted to learn to paint the bridge for my old building collection. This was taken from a stock image. We have a covered bridge in the Shenandoah Valley that I will try soon.

I had heard about a new type of yellow watercolor paint. Mike ordered it for me, and I wanted to try it. I found this Chinese Pheasant with lovely patches of yellow! What marvelous coloring. What fun to paint. At first, he was all alone on the paper, but he looked lost and ungrounded. He just got loose dust to stand on. Why? Well, I read more about this pheasant so I could place him on the right kind of ground. He looks like he should eat colorful, ripe berries and strut on thick turf. But alas, though he is gloriously colored, he is, after all, just a fowl. He forages around in dry soil for seeds and bugs!

Isn’t that a little like us? We may be dressed in beautiful clothes and walk with a regal gait. But we are just human with strengths and weaknesses and hopes and fears. What makes us different is who we honor! We are nothing on our own, but when we love and honor Jesus, He uses us for His work and His glory.

Let’s lift our hearts and voices in praise of our Lord and Savior, Jesus, in this Christmas season.

God Bless You!
Diane
