My dear friends!
I’m so sorry it has been so long since my last email. But this is the first time I’ve had some art to show you. We had a wonderful trip to Malaysia during September and October. It was a chance to see many of our friends there, visit 8 of the churches we’ve been close to for many years and ate lots of Indian food! But during those two months, I only got my paints out once. So not much art was accomplished. But we’re back home and over jet lag and my paints are out and ready all the time now.

I love butterflies and I want to paint a whole series of them. These are the first two. They are both swallow-tailed butterflies. I loved painting them and seeing them come to life with the paintbrush. These beauties live very short lives, but they make the most of it pollinating different flowers and lay one egg at a time for a future generation!
The Mexican House was so much fun to paint! Paul Clark provided the sketch and a demo as he painted the Mexican House. I was attracted to this tutorial because of the bright light and with lots of color and character. It was a wet-on-wet with lots of washes which means lots of water and lots of drying time. So, while this one was drying, I would paint some details on a butterfly. Then I’d go back to the Mexican House. I found this a very good way to maximize the fun of painting and minimize the waiting time between washes.

I hope you have a very blessed Thanksgiving! May your time with family and friends be a blessing to all!
Blessings!
Diane
